Make connections between two pieces of literature is a high level critical thinking skill. There many different ways to compare two works. The most obvious is the plot. What are the similarities and differences when it comes to the plot? Characters are often similar between different stories. They don’t even have to be the same species to have a similar struggle or conflict. These worksheets will have students contrast various parts of stories.

What is the Best Way to Compare Two Stories?


Stories are important elements for the basic learning of young children. It helps them make a better sense of the world in a fun and interesting way. Stories teach children about human values, behaviors, the importance of relationships, and so many other things. However, it is also important to teach children how to differentiate between two different stories. This is because it will help them broaden their views about the world. They won't be stuck with few visions that a single story gave them. It helps them in understanding different people at different times. Here are a few ways to let the children compare two different stories.


Compare the Setting


Comparison between two different stories can be done in parts. You can divide the story into certain elements and then compare each element to the other. The setting is the first element of the story that is introduced in the beginning. The setting holds immense significance in a story. Setting includes the time period of the story, living conditions of the characters, society, and other such elements. You can compare the setting by differentiating between the time periods. For example, one story can be based in the past while the other one can be based in the future. These differences can be spotted with the help of details. For example, a donkey cart might indicate that it is not a developed era whereas; fast-paced cars indicate the current time period or the future. A mud house indicates that the character is poor whereas a large and lavish house indicates that the character is rich.


Compare the Characters


You can compare the characters by making character sketches. Take out the most important characters from both the stories and make their character sketch. This way, you can easily compare their personalities.
