When we are writing to share research or to just simply convey information, we should proofread it many times. Not to just make sure the spelling and grammar is correct, but to make sure the reader can reproduce it. If you are trying to write a recipe for spaghetti sauce, if you leave the step out about stirring the sauce, people will make weak dishes and it wasn’t what it was intended to do. These worksheets will take students through a series of exercises to help them become more effective writers.

How to Writing Worksheets To Print:

Fishing For the First Time! - Your friend Paul has never gone fishing. Tell Paul how to fish in four simple steps.

Blowing Bubbles - Tell your friend how to blow bubbles in four steps or less. This can be a really fun writing project and go in all types of different directions.

The Steps to Take When Writing a How to


Sequence writing is a form of texts that contains certain instructions to perform or do something. These types of writings can be extremely useful as they provide authentic information about something that you have wanted to do. A step by step guidance can be a challenging task, but you can follow these steps to master this sort of writing.


Use the Right Sentence Structure


Sequence writing follows a specific sentence structure. It needs to be followed otherwise; it won't be called sequence writing. As the name implies, sequence writing follows a certain sequence or pattern. It does not just start piling up the information. Rather, it is presented in an organized manner.


Sequence writing is written in steps. The sentence structure that it follows includes mentioning of the steps in the starting. For example, you will start the first sentence by "the first step is to..." and then the next point will start with "the second step is to...". This procedure would go on.


You will also be using some helping words. These can be divided into two types - order and time.


The helping words related to order include:


in the beginning, firstly, secondly, third, finally, after, before, at last, subsequently, etc.


The helping words related to time include:


previously, afterwards, recently, after, when, etc.


Example: How to make a sandwich


Here is an example of how you would write a (how-to) writing on "how to make a sandwich".


In the beginning of the process to make sandwiches, you will have to get all the ingredients ready. First, get your bread ready. Second, season and cook the chicken nicely. When you are done with the chicken; cut your favorite vegetables. After that, it is time for assembling. Layer the chicken and vegetables on the bread.
