Parts of the Dictionary
– We examine the dictionary and the main key information found in

Study what is in the dictionary and help students answer questions
from using it as a tool.
Meanings – Some words have many different meanings, or can be
used in many different ways. Read the entry for the word jump.
Words in the Dictionary – Guide words at the top of dictionary
pages help you to find words in the dictionary. The word in the left
corner is the first entry on a page and the word in the right corner
is the last entry on a page.
Glossary – A glossary is an alphabetical list of words accompanying
a book, story or paper. Read the article below. Then use the glossary
to answer the questions.
– Some books have a list of words in alphabetical order called a
glossary in the back. It contains definitions of words used in the
