When you are analyzing a story the most important points always start with the setting and eventually move on the motivations of the characters. There are characters that will drive the story and then there are characters that will lead the story into a different direction that often opens up the plot. The actions taken by each character leads you to understand the greater prominence of the goal of the author. This selection of worksheets drives students to grasp the intent of each of the character and how it helps the overall goal of the author.

Actions of Characters Worksheets:

Larry – Larry and his half-brother Charles play against one another in a league game.

Super Ninja – Willy might not be a super athlete, but the martial arts fit him well.

Nurse Betty – We relate this fable to doing your chores. Nurse Betty is giving shots. Fill in the blank below each story with the word that describes how Nurse Betty thinks each patient is feeling.

The Dragon Hawk – That would be something very scary to see in your backyard. On the lines above each one, write a few lines about what Vincent is doing in the story that displays that particular feeling or trait.

How to Determine the Actions of Characters in a Story?


A character is a person or animal (usually a living thing) around which a story revolves. Characters are an important part of a story and keep the interest of the reader growing and take the story to different events.


How to Determine the Characters in a Story?


Protagonist


There is a main character in a story, novel or narrative called protagonist. You can say he is the hero or heroine in a story that has some conflict or goal to be described in the story and acts to solve those problems, giving us a moral or just entertaining us throughout. The protagonist can be positive or negative. Most of the times stories and movies are named on the main character of that story so they are easy to determine.


For Example:

:::: In the story of "Little Red Ridden Hood", the main character or the protagonist is the Red Riding hood. There is a wolf that wants to eat her throughout the story.

:::: In the series of Harry Potter, Harry Potter is the protagonist as he is the one driving the story.

:::: The story of "Cinderella" has a protagonist character of Cinderella who is tackling with her stepmother and stepsisters.


Antagonist


An antagonist is the one who is opposing the protagonist or hero of the story. You can also call it a villain.


For Example:

:::: In the story "Aladdin", Jafar is the antagonist.

:::: In "Harry Potter", Voldemort is the main antagonist.

:::: In the story of "Snow White", Snow White's stepmother is an antagonist as she wants to kill her by making her eat a poisonous apple.


There are also many other minor characters in a story, but those two are the main.
