When we say a word out loud we the goal is to communicate what our intended purpose was. When others can clearly understand our thoughts, we have achieved our goal. This ability comes from understanding and being able to perform the pronunciation of words. It is paramount that put a great deal of focus into how your pronunciation comes across and make sure that it clear and understandable by other listeners. Perfectly pronouncing words is important to everyone because of the pride associated with having great command over the language and fear of being humiliated upon your inability to speak clear and perfect words in the language.


Despite the fact that one's pronunciation has a lot to do with who they are and what other languages they speak; a few common practices can effectively improve one's pronunciation.


Here are some tips that can help learners in pronouncing English words and phrases correctly without much difficulty:


Decide Who Do You Want to Sound Like


There are a lot of accents in the English speaking communities all across the globe and all of them have different ways of pronouncing different words. The most commonly followed accents are the British and American accents. Choose one of the ways you want to pronounce the word with and then search the web for the correct pronunciation of that specific word in the specific accent of your choice.


Pay Attention to the Syllables, Stresses, and Aspirations


While listening to the word for correct pronunciation, try to listen to it repeatedly while focusing more on the syllables and which word parts are being stressed upon more. Also, try to recognize unusual patterns in the pronunciation as well as the sound. The best part about a dictionary is that it also provides you with the assistance of pronouncing a word in the right way. It will also tell you the correct way to spell the word. A dictionary does not contain any errors or faults which is why you can trust it completely. Some dictionaries also contain examples for the usage of words in sentences.


Glossaries


Glossaries are also very helpful reference materials to clarify words. Glossaries are books that contain the meanings and explanations of specific terms in alphabetical order. Glossaries are usually present at the end of books. Mostly books that are based on complex topics such as science, geology, biology, etc have glossaries in the end. They help the readers in understanding complex and specific terms that were mentioned inside the textbook.


Encyclopedias


Encyclopedias are books that contain brief descriptions and explanations on different types of subjects or different aspects of the same subject.
