Whenever we compose a work of fiction that is outside professional or academic norms it represents a creative writing piece. These writing opportunities allow authors to show off their imagination and creativity as the name implies. When we compose creative pieces, it gives us a chance to share a part of us in an impactful way with our audience. This type of writing often exhibits a higher level of personification and emotion than you will find in more traditional styles. Once the biggest aspect of creative writing is the choice of perspective that the author chooses to tell the story from. This can often be the make-or-break choice in this style of writing. In the collection of worksheets that are provided here students will be given a very detailed prompt to allow them to write creative and explore the boundaries of their imaginations.

Renting a Unicorn - One day you are looking through your Instagram feed when you see an advertisement for a unicorn for rent.

Silly Critters - Look at the pictures. Why are all of these creatures laughing?

Step Inside a Virtual World - Imagine you accidentally press a certain combination of buttons on your video game controller and found yourself suddenly transported into the video game that you are playing.

How to Make Your Writing More Creative

Creative writing is a constantly evolving field, and learning it is a similar evolutionary process. To excel in this sector, you have to continuously hone your skills according to the latest industry developments.


If you want to be a compelling and engaging storyteller, your craft will need constant tweaks and many edits over time. Learning through trial and error is also a significant part of the process. Besides, any half-decent piece of writing requires creativity. That being said, stringing the right words together to create engaging content can sometimes be challenging (those who've dealt with writer's block can relate).


Look to Grab Your Readers' Attention from the Beginning


In any piece of writing, the opening lines are sometimes called "the hook". This is because you're trying to get the reader's attention. You want to "hook" your readers and keep them interested till they've read the last word of the piece you're writing. Try to come up with a powerful and impactful opening. It will get your story off to the right start. Consider the examples below:


- The Notre Dame defender slid in with a crunching tackle. However, in his eagerness to get to the ball, he rammed straight into the right shin of the Clemson attacker.


- Kevin's back broke with a distinctly audible crack.


- Susan hadn't yet come to terms with the fact that she was slowly, but surely, going blind!


All these are exciting lines that make the reader ask, "Why?" or "What happened next?"
And once these questions pop into a reader's mind, they're overwhelmingly likely to read your piece further.


Give Life to Your Characters


Strong, likable, and relatable characters are the lifeblood of any story. So, you've got to treat them with a lot of care and pay special attention to their development as you spin your narrative further. Work on their grooming and add unique characteristics to their personality. But make them believable and relatable at the same time by giving them a purpose and a mission.


Edit Like Your Life Depends On It (Always!)


You'll be surprised to learn just how many talented writers overlook this part. Make sure you aren't one of them. The same goes for relying on Grammarly or some other in-built spell-checker. Use them as props to support your work but don't rely on them entirely. Always read and re-read every word so that your final draft is a clean and nicely written piece of content that your readers ultimately fall in love with!

How else will you jot down all those fantastic ideas that you come up with at odd times? Or how about keeping those sticky notes in your phone? After all, we're living in a digital age. So, why not use your phone to become more productive and creative?


End on a High Note


Try to give the reader something to think about with your ending. Leave them speculating or wondering why things happened the way they happened. However, make a genuine effort to resolve as much as possible if that complements your plot well. A satisfactory ending will keep the readers engaged and eagerly awaiting your next installment!
