Glyph Worksheets

Core Standard

Glyphs are a short form word for the term hieroglyphics. That was an ancient writing system that used by the Egyptian civilization. Information was displayed in picture form. In the modern classroom you will see that glyphs are ever present as well. They are used to provide a theme which an activity will build on to. The primary goal is to expand the details of the image into a useable information set. I find these super helpful for helping students follow directions and begin to make a connection between reading comprehension and visual directions. Students often have a bit of difficulty making the transition from using written information to graphical information. This helps ease the burden of learning that. You will find that students also become slightly better map readers after mastering this activity. This section of our web site will provide you with a series of glyphs that ask students to connect to written directions.
