Sentence Based Response To Prompts Worksheets

Devising answers to written prompts is a long process that seems to give many students hardship. In most cases following a set series of steps to attack questions makes it much more doable. I always have students make certain that they know what the question is asking of them. For there they should brainstorm the thoughts that they wish to get across in their response. I often find it very helpful to have them number these thoughts, so that they can make sure they arrive at a completed answer. The worksheets in this series can help students work through this process and provide them a good level of confidence with the skill.

The Steps to Take When Writing a Response to a Question
Here are some basic steps that you can take when writing a response to a question:
Read the question again and again
One of the major mistakes that often occur when writing answers is that the question is misunderstood. Students do not carefully read the question and write the wrong answer. To avoid this mistake, read your questions again and again. Try to translate it into simpler words for yourself. Make sure that your comprehension of the question is correct. Only then you will be able to find the right answer to your question. If there is a passage given to you for reference, then read that thoroughly. It would contain the answer to your question.
Decide the main idea
Your answer to a question should not be plain simple and dull. It should be constructed. The reader should know that you have given enough thought to it. When you start to write the answer, decide on a structure that you will follow. You can give a brief introduction, body and conclusion to make it more interesting. Your answer should contain the main idea. You can compose the main idea in a topic sentence. After you have decided on the main idea, you can add some extra relevant information to support your answer.
Think and brainstorm your answer
This is the part where you will actually create a rough draft for your answer either in your mind or written. Think carefully about all the points that you want to add to your answers. Give yourself time to think about how you can explain yourself. Find the right words, facts, statements, and examples to support the main idea of your answer.
Review what you have written
Reviewing is important because it helps you perfect your answer. Reread the entire answer to get rid of any errors. You can also eliminate any unnecessary information from it.
