Using Spelling Patterns When Writing Words Worksheets

We often learn to spell without even breaking down or even evaluating what we are doing. There are many different letter patterns that exist in the spelling of different words in English. To become a good speller we must not only learn to identify these patterns, but also apply them to new words. Understanding the whole value of word roots is a key to spell much more difficult words. These worksheets will help students find and work off of spelling root words.
Using Spelling Patterns Worksheets To Print:
Vacationing with R-Controlled Vowels" - Work with vocabulary that use the consonant controlled vowel (-ir, -ur, or -ar).
Shopping with Complex Consonants - All about shopping and buy things.

Silence Captain Sam - The Captain loves to read and say words that are scrambled.
Backpack Full of Double Vowel Spelling - Vowel pairs are very common in the vocabulary for this level.
Lighthouse Spelling - Color the parts of the lighthouse if the word is spelled correctly.
Laughing with Diagraphs - Mark the diagraph that is missing from the bold face word in the sentences.
Silent Letter Spelling - Read the following sentences and circle the misspelled words in each sentence.
Bossy Vowel Practice - Which letter pair is completely absent?
High Flying - Pick 1 and drop 2.
Sporty Spelling - Unscramble the letters to correctly spell a word that completes the sentence.
Playing with Hard & Soft "C" and "G" - Correct the misspelled words in the sentence. Cut out the circles that are numbered and paste them on the game board.
Fishing for Digraphs - Read the story. Complete the words that have missing letters by adding the correct digraph.
Come on to the Hoedown - Use the words from the word bank to fill-in the stars. All the words have long vowels.
Practicing with Magic "E" - Circle the correctly spelled word in each group.
