Irregularly Spelled Words
One of the very basic techniques that are taught to young children to learn how to read and write is the technique of decoding. With the help of decoding, children can easily understand the word and use it fluently in their speech and text. However, decoding is not very useful for all the words. There are some words in the English language that uses a specific pattern for spelling. Such words have the right pronunciations and they can be decoded easily. They follow the rule of phonics and you can easily spot the syllables in them.
These words are the easiest to teach and learn. However, there are also words in the English language that do not really use definite spelling patterns. They are spelled and pronounced differently. These are known as irregular spelled words. They cannot be decoded. Such words should be taught to the child as they are. The teacher should teach irregular words on a daily basis so that the children can easily memorize them. First, the words that are commonly used in the speech should be taught. After that, you should proceed to more difficult and complex irregular spelled words. Here are some examples of the irregularly spelled words that are commonly used in the English language.
