There are several different strategies you can use as you read to motivate grade 3 students to increase what they take away from the writing. The first thing you can do is question the purpose of why this author wrote this. An author's motivation level will often carry into how you should respond to the work. Grade 3 students should always outline a very short blurb about what happens with each and every reading passage they read. These worksheets are used by students to make sure they have a good handle on breaking down a reading passage.

How to Get the Most Out of what you are Reading?


One simply cannot deny the fact that reading is one of the healthiest exercises. Apart from improving your writing and speaking skills, it brings many other good things your way. Reading plays a massive role in structuring the readers' thought process. In other words, it gives you clarity of thought. However, some readers complain that they are sometimes unable to absorb what they are reading or easily get bored halfway. Below are the tips and tricks for getting the most out of what you read:


Do Your Research


Never pick any reading material blindly. Take a little time to preview what you are going to read. Almost all books have a short summary written on the back. Read that to see if it would turn out to be an interesting read for you. Other than that, sit and identify your purpose of reading. Ask yourselves why you are reading a specific book, article or story.


Engage


It's really important to engage with whatever you are reading. We, as humans enjoy those conversations more where we have a certain level of bonding with the other person. Same is the case with reading. The author actually tries to communicate with his/her readers through words. Therefore, think of it as a silent conversation with the writer. This helps in retaining the information for a long time.


Don't Rush


Always try not to create a rush when reading. The purpose of reading is actually to gain insight and detox your mind. Don't read anything just for the sake of it. Try to comprehend every statement that you read. Speed reading does nothing, but makes you miss out on great concepts.
