When you are exploring the similarities shared by two or more things, it is often helpful to think about as many different qualities the things have. This will help you quickly spot an overlap of traits. There may very well be instances of non-obvious synergy. You can identify these by labelling the traits you originally chose and labeling them as positive or negative traits. These worksheets will help students explore the nature of similarities and add a boost to their writing.

How to Make Sure You Are Writing About Similarities


Similarities and differences are two aspects of papers which are to be compared or evaluated by students most of the times. Both the differences and the similarities can be found at the same time but sometimes only one aspect is needed. It happens a lot of times that the students are asked to write about parallelism but they also include some differences to increase the length of their paper. If you are asked to write about the sameness then make sure that you are not including any differences of other irrelevant details. Following are some tips that will help you to make sure that you are writing only about similarities:


Identify the Term


One way to recognize what is being asked is to search for the terms used "comparison" and "contrast". If you are asked to draw a comparison then you must only write about the similarities. On the other hand, if you are asked to contrast two papers then only the differences between the papers are needed to be written down.


Similar Characters


If you are finding the resemblance between two texts then make sure that the characters in which you have drawn a comparison are similar either in their appearances or actions.


Structure Of The Paper


If you claim that the two papers are written while following a similar pattern, then including the similarity of the structures while comparing the papers is a necessity.


Similar Phenomenon


When two papers follow the same procedure of writing or contain similar phenomenon being addressed and if the writer is writing it in the list of similarities then there is no doubt that the writer's decision is accurate.


Include Examples


The most important way to make sure that you are writing about similarities is to provide examples of your point. Whatever the writers feel is similar in the papers, should be supported with evidence from both papers.
