Whether you are reading a newspaper or a completed journal entry there are several strategies that we can use to get the most out of it. We definitely advise you to take notes while reading. From these notes you can often form salient questions that will further your understanding. You can then form these questions to other people and even have a full blown discussion of the topic. Reading aloud can often help you remember even more. These worksheets help you learn from what you are reading quickly.

Strategies For Recalling Information From Readings

In today's world, it is easy to remember things and tasks. You conveniently put them on your digital to-do list or set up reminders for meetings. But there is information that you need to cement in your long term memory. For this purpose, there are strategies to help you utilize your memory to the maximum which not only improves memory, but also increase retention and recall.


Chunking


It is easier for brain cells to retain information when you group them instead of retaining it separately. Information can be grouped into chunks for quick recall because it definitely is harder to remember several pieces of information than remember a group.


Mnemonics


These are systems designed in a way that will help you aid memory and recall for example letter pattern, ideas or association that will help you remember the text. VIBGYOR is an expression mnemonic to remember the colors of a rainbow. Moreover, there are rhyme mnemonics and music mnemonics because it allows information to be structured and repeated which is why this is a good strategy to enhance recall.


Attaching Meaning


If you are trying to remember something from the text, make a meaningful sentence out of it. If you are trying to memorize some names and want to enhance your recall, then you may associate those names with things you know well.


Give It Space


Memorizing information over time instead of trying to gulp all down at once, just before the exam, will help you recall it effectively.


Write What You Learn


To retain and recall information, it is important that you note it down in a notebook. This helps you to register the written text in your brain and it will also act as a reminder and point of reference for you.
